How many of you get asked that question when you're home?

I just spent the last week relaxing at home with mom and dad in Maryland. Everyone can always use a little R&R before the semester starts. As I was laying by the pool, I realized my parents, god bless them always supportive and loving, are still somewhat in the dark about what I do. I wanted to take this opportunity to educate them.

What do I do? It can be a tricky question to answer. Some of you may find yourself answering the same question at thanksgiving dinner or a family picnic. Most parents haven't been exposed to the term 'campus recreation' before. Often times we are associated with professional sports or even college athletic departments, and although some rec sports departments are located in athletics, the mission statements differ between the two greatly. No matter how you answer the question, be sure to explain not only what you do but why you do it.

So the next time someone asks what you do, tell them you're a recreational sports professional, and educate them on your dedication to enriching university life through recreational activities.
